I had the opportunity to collaborate on a compact kitchen in aN Historic downtown apartment under the guidance of designer John Thompson. My role involved consulting on the kitchen layout and cabinet design, creating detailed construction drawings for the custom cabinetry, and sourcing furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE). Navigating the challenges posed by immovable elements like a steam pipe and concrete posts, we aimed to create a functional and inviting space where two people could cook together while also ensuring it was suitable for Aging in Place. This involved incorporating a variety of pull-out organizers and clever hidden storage solutions, including discreet step-stool storage and tilting compartments for trash and recycling - ultimately transforming the kitchen into a highly efficient and user-friendly environment.
